Historic District - Government Hill

Government Hill is one 30 Historic Districts in the City of San Antonio.  This area is located immediately south of Fort Sam Houston and North of I-35.

There are incredibly unique and diverse architectural styles found throughout Government Hill. This styles can be seen in the beautiful homes that were being built in the late 19th century as the construction of Fort Sam Houston began.  Government Hill experienced a prolific rate of residential development during the World War I era. 

Today Government Hill is bustling with new energy, renovations, and the lure of it's ideal location. Minutes from Downtown, the Pearl, and so much more.  The Office of Historic Preservation are working diligently to keep the reaming historical landmarks, and architectural styles of the homes protected.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church was built in 1883 to serve the military families living in and around For Sam. It has a Gothic-Revival-style and is still in service today! It is located 1018 E. Grayson St. 


Built in 1911 The Bullis House Inn was home to General John Latham Bullis.  This Classical Revival-style home now serves as a Bed & Breakfast.  Follow the link for reservation information.

Terrell Castle was built in 1894. This Romanesque Revival-style was built by Alfred Giles, a noted San Antonio architect, for Edwin Terrell.  Today it is a beautiful event center with overnight accommodations.
